Chaos erupted in the Karnataka Assembly on Friday following allegations by Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna that he was the target of a honey trap attempt. The revelation led to heated protests from BJP legislators, who stormed into the well of the House, waving CDs and chanting slogans against the government.
Leader of Opposition R Ashoka termed the incident a “major conspiracy” against legislators and accused unknown entities of using honey traps with a hidden agenda.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, defending his government, asserted that there was “no question of protecting anyone” in the case. He assured the Assembly that legal action would be taken if any wrongdoing was found. “It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that the guilty are punished. The Home Minister has already stated that if Minister Rajanna files a complaint, a high-level probe will be conducted,” he said.
The BJP, however, demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter, despite Home Minister G Parameshwara’s earlier statement that an investigation had already been ordered.
Karnataka Minister MC Sudhakar acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating that honey traps and extortion schemes were being used to target politicians and public figures. “Regardless of party affiliation, many are being lured into such traps and exploited. If a written complaint is submitted, the matter will be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
The controversy follows Home Minister G Parameshwara’s announcement on Thursday of a high-level probe into an alleged honey trap attempt on Rajendra Rajanna, the MLC and son of Minister KN Rajanna. The unfolding investigation is expected to determine the extent of the alleged conspiracy and whether any legal action will follow.
